Kennet Valley TR Group May Mid-Monthly - A Wiltshire Wander! Deferred due to COVID-19 Government guidance

THIS EVENT IS DEFERRED DUE TO THE CURRENT GUIDANCE REGARDING COVID19

In May for our mid-monthly, we have a super run out and will be taking a Wiltshire Wander in our super cars, from a starting point in the Newbury (details later) we will drive through Berkshire and start our Wiltshire Wander, heading over to Devizes where we will stop and see the famous Devizes Flight. A route instruction will be supplied.

Lovely villages and scenery, sorry it's a Healey, send me a TR photo please

The Devizes Flight, official name the Caen Hill Locks on the Kennet & Avon Canal, The 29 locks have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km) or a 1 in 44 gradient. The locks come in three groups: the lower seven locks, Foxhangers Wharf Lock to Foxhangers Bridge Lock, are spread over 34 mile (1.2 km); the next sixteen locks form a steep flight in a straight line up the hillside and are designated as a scheduled monument.

Then we'll be off and visit one of the key pumping stations that kept the Kennet & Avon Canal topped with water, very important for all those hard working canal boats.

Crofton Pumping Station is one of the most significant industrial heritage sites in the United Kingdom and a fascinating visitor attraction that invites you to step into our industrial and social history and turn back the clock to a time when steam was king.

The station was built in 1807-9 to supply water to the highest point of the Kennet & Avon Canal which links London and Bristol. It is a rare survivor of the technology which enabled British engineers to drain mines and supply towns and cities with water throughout the world, and has recently undergone National Lottery Heritage fund supported conservation and visitor facility improvement work.

If you'd like to come along on this super ride out, please sign up below and if you need further info, please call or email, Emrhys Barrell, 07703 218906.
