If there is one word that visitors associate with Brittany it has to be coast. This tour takes you to southern Brittany to stay on the scenic coastline of the Morbihan Gulf. Our hotel in Vannes overlooks the yachts and boats moored in the sheltered bay overlooked by green islands and surrounded by blue inlets. The walled town of Vannes itself offers well preserved medieval streets, town houses and market squares so there is plenty to explore on foot as well as in your TR.
Friday 23rd June
Check-in at the Brittany Ferries terminal in Portsmouth at 19.15hrs for 20.15hrs channel crossing to St. Malo. After checking in to your 2 berth inside cabin for the overnight crossing it will be possible to dine in one of the ships restaurants & join other TR Register members for an evening nightcap at the bar.
Saturday 24th June
Arrival at St. Malo is at 08.15hrs. Next to the port, the old town provides a perfect place to have breakfast, and stretch your legs on a walk around the impressive walls. From St. Malo it is time to head for Vannes in Western Brittany and the Best Western Hotel Le Roof, which will be our home for the next four nights. The hotel is right on the coast overlooking the Morbihan gulf, home to many yachts and boats. A relaxed buffet meal has been arranged for this evening.
Sunday 25th June
A choice of circular road runs has been organised. These can be done over consecutive days or you can choose which best suites you. You can either explore the Briere National Park; one of France's largest wetlands. It was once a centre of peat doffing but now it attracts tourists wanting to explore the waterways and observe its unique birdlife. Alternatively, a different coastal road run will visit the coastal towns of Carnac and Quiberon before venturing on to the Atlantic Island of Belle Ile.
Monday 26th June
Today you can complete the 2nd of the two road runs, depending on which one you did before. You can also explore beyond these routes taking in the rocky coastline and inlets that dominate this area.
Tuesday 27th June
The day is free to relax in and around the hotel or to explore the medieval town of Vannes on foot. Beyond the historic remparts are narrow backstreets & medieval houses that were once home to the former Dukes of Brittany. The port of Vannes extends in to the centre of town & provides a marvellous background for an afternoon stroll. A tour dinner has been arranged at the hotel for the evening.
Wednesday 28th June
After a leisurely breakfast, it is time to drive to Caen, with options for a visit the historic town of Dinan on the River Rance or the impressive Mont St. Michel. Further on the route you may like to stop for an evening meal in Bayeux, home of the tapestry and a beautiful cathedral.
