I bought this then newly restored car in 1994. Since then I have been privileged to enjoy its company throughout a playground ranging from Gothenburg to Gibraltar, Sligo to Slovenia and everything in between. After two early close encounters with the RAC get you home service , from Hockenheim , and Marseilles respectively I resolved to prioritise adding confidence in my arrivals to the pleasures of my journeys. I embarked on a phased upgrade costing £36,000 at fully documented historic prices. Revingtons ( RTR ) built me a complete new engine from a re ground crankshaft all the way up. Still mostly with RTR (I am personally useless mechanically) this was followed over the years with suspension upgrades ( RTR’s own enginering at the front and stronger leaf springs at the rear,) a much stronger TR3A axle to replaced the useless original Lockheed axle, s/s exhaust throughout, high torque starter motor, front disc brakes, RTR rack and pinion steering conversion , alternator fed electrics, RTR fan and thermostat amongst much else… you get the picture. The last bare metal respray (2007) disclosed no rust problems. Less vital accoutrements include new (2021) leather seats and wool carpets inside , covered by a mohair tonneau or a serviceable vinyl hood and sidescreens, new cww and tyres ( 2021). As recently as 2022 RTR fettled the top end with a good replacement camshaft.
This car is going to long outlive me. I am now 87 and my poor arthritic wife/ navigator cannot even get into the car. Despite an Agreed Insurance Value of £30,000 Fate has called time on me during a weakened market. I think that £18,500 is a very fair price for a car with this pedigree.
