An original, matching numbers 1968 Triumph TR5. Fully restored by TR Bitz, between 2003 and 2004, using a strengthened and stove enamelled Californian chassis at an eye watering cost of £45, 212. 00 in 2004!
The engine was re-built to stage two, lightened and balanced. Twin sports exhausts fitted. Kenlowe fan. Electronic ignition.
Finished in the original colours, as confirmed by the heritage certificate, of Valencia Blue with tan interior and black mohair hood.
Wooden door cappings. Leather seats.
72 spoke wheels with Alfin rear drums
There is a working period radio installed with the aerial on the windscreen.
The car has a current MOT which expires in March 2023.
Nine owners from new. The 5th owner changed the registration number but, during the restoration, the original registration was granted, following verification by Bill Pigott. All the relevant paperwork is in the file.
Having spent so much effort, not to mention the considerable expense, having this car built the owner only did 5192 miles in it in nine years. I have also owned the car for nine years. Total milage is now 26973, the car having been on several continental jaunts for which it is so suitable. There is even an easy removable seat belt plug to secure a medium sized dog, for the odd short journey.
The car remains in extremely good condition.
During my custody the car has been serviced yearly including oil and filter. I have fitted a Revington oversize alloy fuel tank, which in addition to extending the range by 15%, also eliminates the fuel starvation issues of the standard tank which occur at below 1/ 4 full.
A replacement Bosch fuel pump/ filter unit and calibrated prv from Prestige Injection was also fitted. They also rebuilt the fuel metering unit with a hardened rotor.
The clutch was replaced just before lockdown with few miles since.
There are two history files. The first one is massive with every invoice of the build from TR Bitz along with correspondence and a photographic record of the build (including one photo of John Sykes [TR Bitz] with the original donor car).
The car starts and runs superbly with very strong performance and a wonderful soundtrack. A very competent sports touring car. If you want a TR5 to use, as well as exhibiting at shows then this is it.
Would consider a Triumph TR3/ 3a in part exchange.
If you require any more photos or a video of the car running please ask. Also the underside of the car can be viewed on a scissor lift if desired.
