My 50 year old Triumph TR6
I bought this car back in January 2016 as a half finished project it had been off the road for about 28 years. It had been put into Bill Adams, a local body shop to be restored but the years rolled by and the owner had either ran out of cash or interest or both and Bill had bought the car from him. Bill then retired, closed the coachworks and took the TR6 home to carry out the rest of the work in his spare time. It lay in his garage for 2 years he finally decided it was not for him and advertised it locally.
The car is an 2.5 PI (with overdrive)registered April 1969 with chassis number CP25608 it is a very early car. Originality damson in colour but had been changed to black prior to me buying it.
Over the years of restoration all the wings and the sills had been renewed the n/s door has had a skin on it,other panels have had professional repairs. The bumpers both front and rear are in very good condition with some new sections. There is not a sign of any rust coming through on any area of the bodywork, this is probably due to it having always being kept inside through all the years of restoration.
On buying the car it was a non runner and a lot of work was still left to do, here is a summary of what has been done .
New ,halogen headlamps, indicator lenses, spoiler and horns
New radiator ,all cooling hoses, clutch assy & slave cyl ,rocker shaft & rockers, exhaust valves, battery, recon metering unit, recon injectors, injector pipes, electronic ignition, cap, coil, leads plugs ,oil flushed and changed 3 times.
The cylinder head was removed and the seats recut and valves ground in, it has not been changed to unleaded as I feel that it’s a lot of money to spend if you’re not going to be doing a big mileage in a vehicle.
The rest of the engine was left untouched, has good oil pressure and does not use oil .
New Brake master cylinder and servo, discs, pads, calliper seals,
all hoses pipes and rear wheel cylinders.
New Bosch fuel pump with up rated wiring, relay, rollover switch , filter and all fuel lines from back to front plus aluminium fuel tank.
New front suspension poly bushes, shockers, top ball joints, lower trunnion’s , track rod ends, wheel bearings, anti roll bushes & linkages
New rear shocker links, rear arm bushes, lower chassis brace plate
Stainless steel exhaust and revolution wheels with New Michelin 195.65x15 tyres.
New interior trim kit from Rimmers, carpet set (inc boot mat),plastic tunnels, steering column bushes, H frame recovered ,new hood and inertia seat belts. Recon wiper motor, new door mirrors, windscreen rubbers, wind deflector
No seats came with car so I fitted MX5 seats.
There are many other minor things that have been done,Including boot liner, stainless steel radiator cowl and mahogany door caps. The dash is the one thing I have not got round to yet and although fully functional I had always intended to change it to match door trim
It is a good honest British car with original engine ( see photos) and despite it being mot exempt I have Tested it since putting it back on the road. It now has a full years test.
There is nothing much in the way of history other than 2 receipts and a photocopy of a previous V5. I have the receipts for items I purchased.
The wooden steering wheel in the picture does not go with the car as it was a gift a new steering wheel will be fitted.
I am selling this lovely because it’s only done 200 miles since last year and I have just restored a Triumph Stag I’m also running out of room!
