Every year, the TR Register awards members from across the club for volunteer work and activities that have contributed to the club in a significant way.  In 2024, the awards were held at the Annual Members Meeting on Saturday, 16th March 2024, at the Stratford Manor Hotel.

The awards ceremony opened by noting absent friends that were put forward by the membership for a special tribute:

  • Pete Buckles
  • Bob Eccles
  • Benjamin Zephaniah
  • Harris Mann

There were no TR Action Awards this year, but they will return in 2025 with the new editor, Trevor Good.

Clubman’s Awards

Clubman’s Awards are presented annually to individuals who have volunteered or worked on a specific initiative throughout the last 12 months.

The first award is given in recognition of the hard work put in by many who organised the European Meeting and Mick Forey proposed the list to reward his super team that put the event together.

Winners: Brian Hardy, Alan Wilkinson, Andy Holyoak, Roger Guy, Alan Ford, Howard: 'the 4th emergency service' and all the other team members.

A further special recognition award was given to Linda Forey, who was gifted a TR 'TRee' for her garden as horticulture is a special passion of hers. The award recognised the phenomenal amount of work that Linda put in, not only making gifts and planning the evening entertainment but also in proofreading the programme and planning the routes and itinerary.

Mick Forey also received a special recognition award for his event leadership, navigating COVID cancellations, keeping budgets, chairing meetings, planning the venues and hotel and pulling the team together to ensure that the European TR Register visitors had a European Weekend to remember forever.

Gold Awards

Gold Awards are in recognition of our club members who, over many years, have dedicated themselves to serving the club as a whole or heading up specific projects. The Gold Award recipients are often our club's long-standing, unsung heroes who have given vast amounts of their time and energy freely to serve the club and make things happen.

First Winner: Andy Canning – Cotswold Vale Group Leader.

Second winner: Helen Critchley

Reg Woodcock Trophy

Reg is a legend in motorsport circles. As a club racer, he enjoyed amazing success racing TRs, mainly down to his incredible mix of driving skill with engineering prowess. He would often embarrass Aston Martins in his TR3A!  Each year, this award is given to someone who has contributed significantly to motorsports in the past year.

This year our winner is a published author, who races a TR7 V8 and continues to make a success for motorsport in our club. He leads our very successful TR Register Hillclimb and Sprint Championship, which continues to grow in popularity.

Winner: Larry Jeram - Croft

Wheelspinner Award

The Wheelspinner Award is presented to the local area group that has been most active in their area. Local groups should demonstrate a dedication to a particular project, improvements to club activities in their area, and benefits to the local community, charities, or special initiatives to attract new members.

This year, the winning group (s) worked to create a new event in Scotland and revive the TR Register Scottish Weekend at Doune Hill climb that not only provided a spectacular show but also drew the Hilclimb and Sprint Championship north of the border to widen the event's appeal.

Winner: TR Register Scotland.

Web Awards

This award goes to the person who has contributed much to the TR Register car club in the digital space by creating compelling content that everyone has found a must-read. It could be a local group web editor writing online reports, the manager of a local group’s social media pages or a contributor to the Forum.

This year, it goes to someone who has created an incredible following for his group on Facebook, attracting huge follower figures and keeping his audience updated with regular updates.

Winner: David Green, Brunel Group.

Eddie Holden Award

Eddie Holden was a true TR man and an exceptional member of this club to anyone who knew him or had sought his help. He is best remembered for owning an ex–Ken Richardson works rally TR3, which he drove in the manner that Richardson had intended pretty much all the time. He was hugely generous in giving his time to help other TR members and was a font of knowledge on all things TR. He, in effect, embodied the true spirit of the TR Register, of friendship, help, and support, and these traits are also common in this year’s winner.

This year's winner has continuously been a TR Register member since he bought his TR4 in 1974. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and a Chartered Tax Advisor in 1982.

In 1988, he bought his own accountancy practice. The business was involved in accounts production and review, business tax, personal tax, VAT, business planning, bookkeeping, client payroll, etc.

In 2003 he merged with a larger firm and became an equal partner. He managed a portfolio of slightly larger clients and was able to develop more of an advisory/consultancy role. I retired from the practice in 2015.

Whilst a sole practitioner, he advised a group who were looking to set up a new engineering business and was invited to join them as Finance Director. They set up the company in 1993 to remanufacture steering and related components for the bus and coach industry. The company is still trading, and he oversees the accounts function to this day.

Ensured the published accounts of the TRR became more informative to the membership and has always been on hand to provide financial information, advice and support to the rest of the board.

But more than that, he is a TRUE TR man.

Winner: Malcolm Tatton BSc ARCS FCA CTA
