Alan Gibb
Alan Gibb says: “A happy new year to all of you and I hope you had a good time and are looking forward to the 2012 season. At our last meeting Mike Hedges was presented with the Colin Ironside trophy for his input and his organisation of the club events throughout the past year.
The NEC show was a great event. The TR register stand had Karl’s TR4 on display and Belinda won the hamper in the prize draw. I helped manage the Swallow Doretti owner’s club stand where we had four Dorettis on display (no, it was not my red car on display). This was the first time since 1954 Dorettis had a stand at the motor show.
I hope to have a technical night on January’s club night and also our 2012 date fixing. The next three club nights will be held at the Fourmile House, Kingswells, 7pm for supper (if required) or 8pm for meeting. I hope to see you all soon. My new mobile number is 07554877163, e-mail gibb37@hotmail.co.uk.”
I would like to thank Lorna Robinson for the following report:
“The autumn trip took nine cars over the water to Orkney, three TRs, four Stags and two moderns. Most met up at Gill’s Bay for the short crossing to St Margaret’s Hope on South Ronaldsay. Our base for four nights was Kirkwall, at the Lynnfield Hotel (Triumph Roadster owner) right next to the Highland Park distillery.
For three days we toured around the main Island with a few venturing over to the island of Hoy. Totally spoilt for choice as there is so much to see and do. Firm favourites have to be the Italian Chapel, Scara Brae, Maes Howe, Tomb of the Eagles and the many Standing Stones, all from Neolithic times. Quite exciting crossing over the Churchill Barriers with waves lapping either side of the road. The scenery was amazing with white sanded beaches and breathtaking views round every corner.
On Sunday morning we visited the Marine control centre for Scapa Flow and could follow on the various computer screens the comings and goings of shipping in the area, including the departure of a cruise liner.
Most have vowed we must return and explore further. So Orkney, be prepared for a return of the purring sound of the Triumph car.”
