A prospective new Classic Car Owner asked me recently if there was an active group local TR group in the area. I ran this past him: “In 2011 Cumbria Group has reached the North West tip of Scotland at Duness, the South West tip of Ireland at Dursey point, we had a fabulous hotel based in weekend in Scotland thanks to the work of Jim and Anne, and we also had a long weekend camping in Scotland. We have been the guests of Peter and Daphne Guy, Ann Kirkpatrick and Ken and Chris Wilson who have all entertained us warmly in their homes, we have travelled many miles in a single day enjoying our cars and we have driven but a few miles to enjoy a picnic by a river in the North Lakes followed by an ice cream. We have included the International Weekend at Harrogate, and simply run down to Bowness on Windermere for a natter, and on top of all this, we, Cumbria group, hosted a tremendous TR Register National Summer Ball, and raised £610.00 in the process for the local Air Ambulance”.
All in all, another successful, enjoyable year, following the ethos of the Register, to use and enjoy our cars. I want to thank everybody who has stepped up and helped in any way to add to the group enjoyment in 2011. By the time this edition of the magazine hits the doormats, all the festivities will be just a memory. I hope you all got the TR presents you wrote to Santa about, and that 2012 takes this special club as well as Cumbria Group to new and greater heights.

Our November meeting at the Kings Head was well attended by a total of 24 members with a good selection of TRs in the car park on a fine sunny autumn day. This included a new member, James Barker, who travelled from Old Colwyn in his recently acquired TR6. I took the opportunity of using my own TR6 to check for leaks following the fitting of a new heater matrix. Fortunately everything seems fine, although re-fitting the heater was a fiddly job.
Our Group Leader Graham Edwards and his wife Jane had not long returned from a short break in the Cotswolds during which they had taken the opportunity to attend the Cotswold Vale monthly meet at The Fleece Inn at Bretforton. They both wish to thank Andy Canning and the Cotswold Vale members for the warm welcome they received.
On the subject of the Cotswolds we have decided that our next annual weekend away will once again be centred on Broadway. Unfortunately we will miss the local group’s meeting as we will not be travelling down until Friday 25 May 2012. The weekend will extend to Monday 28 May and some of us are intending to stay over for the whole week. This event has been brought forward as a number of our members are intending to travel to Classic Le Mans in early July. Anyone wishing to go to this event should contact out Deputy Group Leader Phil Griffiths for further information.
Before this however we will be having our annual dinner on Friday 20 January 2012 at the Plas Hafod Hotel Gwernymynydd near Mold Flintshire. Last year’s dinner was very well attended and we hope that this year’s will also be well attended.
Our meeting on 5 February 2012 will also be our annual general meeting when we will attend to group business and also discuss other events for the forthcoming year.
During a recent visit to Malta I took the opportunity to visit the car museum in Bugibba which has a good selection of vehicles including a Triumph TR3, Spitfire, GT6 and 2000 saloon. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area and this month’s photo features a rather nicely restored Wolseley Hornet Special parked outside the entrance.
Hopefully everyone has had an enjoyable Christmas and is looking forward to the Spring and Summer and a new season of Club events.
As always all Register members in North Wales and beyond are welcome to join with us, so please make contact if you would like to get the best out of your TR.

We are now approaching the dark TR-less months of the year. Pretty bleak except for a New Year Run on the 2nd January, which will have taken place by the time this issue of TR Action has been published. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us and the roads are free of salt.
Our Quiz took place at the November Meeting. David Rhodes put us through our paces on food and drink, television, what connects, and cars and motoring. Bill and Anne Redrobe’s team came out on top after a penalty shoot-out to collect the Bright Spark Trophy.
The Events Meeting the following week was well attended. We soon had a full and interesting calendar with something for everybody, shows, runs, weekends, race meetings, to mention but a few. Please refer to www.redrosetrs.co.uk for full details.
If you were not there you will have missed the Christmas Buffet on 11th December. The same goes for the AGM on 8th January and if you did not attend you had better make sure you have not been elected to any positions in your absence.
Meanwhile my TR (DUD) should be in the midst of having new wings, door skins, sills, and a respray to be ready for next season. It deserves a spruce up after fifteen years of abuse.

Wharfedale

Mike Sloan and I attended the AGM at Gaydon in November. As you know Mike has stood down from his position as North West Co-ordinator. At the AGM the TR Register presented him with an award in recognition for his services. We at Wharfedale add our thanks and congratulate him on his Clubman’s award. Mike is a valued Wharfedale member and will, I hope, continue to contribute to our group’s activities.
The AGM was my first visit to the Heritage Centre at Gaydon. What a wonderful museum it is. I was pleasantly surprised not only by the exhibits but the superb way in which they are presented. If you find yourself in the area the museum is well worth a visit, but do allow plenty of time to really enjoy it.
At the time of writing (November) we have not yet held an events meeting or set the date for our AGM. These dates will be announced January and will be posted on our website.
On behalf of Ken and myself, we wish you all a belated Happy New year.
Footnote by Ken Bailey, deputy Group Leader: I am sure everyone in Wharfedale would want to congratulate Stan after he was presented at the AGM with a TR Register Gold Award. It is good that the Register recognises the hard work and dedication Group Leaders put in behind the scenes as well as leading their group. Stan says he is very proud and honoured to receive the award.
