St Christopher Blessing at Craswall Church

St Christopher Blessing at Craswall Church

An unusual opportunity to gather with like minded folk in the stunning setting of the Eastern Black Mountains. Craswall is tucked away on an unclassified road just South East of Hay-on-Wye, and it's here you'll find the ancient St Mary's Church. The idea of a Blessing for all modes of transport has been brought to Craswall from France - and this year was the first opportunity to try out the idea. I believe that the organisers were the Hereford Austin 7 club, and we got to hear about it through Wye Dean member Andrew Langton. Just 4 of us turned out with our TRs, and were warmly welcomed by the organisers and the Rev. Nicholas Lowton who officiated in a suitably light hearted manner. A variety of cars drove into the Church field, including vintage & classic cars, tractors and even a recumbent bike!

Pews were brought out into the sun, the organist had wired up a small electric organ, hymn sheets were proffered, and a short service ensued. Following this, the Rev Nicholas visited each vehicle and sprinkled it with Holy water, reminding us that it didn't then qualify each as invincible! There then followed the chance to closely inspect the various vehicles and chat with their owners - some had brought a picnic - we 2 decided to head for the comfort of the Foyles Hotel/restaurant at Glasbury.

Have a look at the Gallery section to see a selection of photos showing the variety of cars present.
