Berwick on Tweed weekend run May 2016
Saturday May 7th and Sunday 8th TAY TR GROUP RUN
The group met at the Leadburn Inn just south of Penicuik with one Tr4, one Tr7 V8 and 4 Tr6`s for a coffee and a snack. Unfortunately the morning started off fairly misty but did not dampen our enthusiast members. Jim Hendry led the group off through Temple and Gorebridge to the lovely villages of East Lothian and over the Lammermuirs on fantastic driving roads spoilt by the mist to a very well earned lunch stop at the Dunbar Garden centre. Having been topped up food and liquids to restore the energy levels we followed the Jim on the final leg of our run. With the mist lifting we took a single track road (rally road) through Upper Monynut, perfect driving roads for any Tr. Finally we drove along the coast visiting some very quaint harbours and villages on our way to the Marshall Meadows hotel just outside Berwick. Once we were booked and in our bags unpacked we all enjoy refreshing drinks in the bar till it was time for dinner. We all enjoyed an excellent 3 course meal with a great choice of food followed by after dinner drinks before retiring to bed just before midnight.
After a good night's sleep we all enjoyed a proper cooked breakfast to set ourselves up for the day ahead. Standing outside you could see the mist lifting which gave everyone the motivation to go top less for today's run. We were joined by another two TR6`s, one from Edinburgh and one from Dunblane to swell our numbers for the day`s run. We leave the Marshall Meadows Hotel and drive down to Berwick to top up the cars with fuel and the sun is out. We had a great run on nice flowing A and B roads to Selkirk without any cars slowing us down which was a pleasurable drive. From Selkirk we headed to Ettrickbridge then up over the hill to Yarrow. This was gave everyone a photo opportunity at the top of the hill with stunning views in every direction. Our last stop is Traquair House for our lunch. The food was fantastic and the lamb out of this world. The group then split up to head for home. The Tay group, safely led by Ken, followed some challenging roads to avoid the Edinburgh by pass before crossing the Forth Bridge and on to home. As usual none of us had any issue keeping up the pace on the road home and we had to overtake the old RS Escort coming out at Knockhill.
Special thanks are due to Jim and Irene Hendry for organising the routes we followed and Duncan and Pam Menzies for putting the event together.
