shock absorber kits

has anyone any experience of the conversion kits for telescopic shock absorbers for the live axle Tr4a now offered by Moss? I'm particularly interested, not being a racing type, in TT3218.

I assume that the Moss catalogue description of "TR4a - 6 live axle" means TR4a, or have I missed something?

TT3218 is intended for use on the TR4A-TR6 IRS cars, not live axle TR4A cars.

No kit is offered for the TR4A live axle in the new Moss catalogue, if I'm right.

The TT3218 is an inferior solution, it's bolted to the rear inner wing only.

I wonder if the Type 1A (TR2-TR4 ) can be used on the TR4A live axle cars?

Hi Guys

Correct me if I'm wrong but arn't the 4a Live Axle cars USA only as the importers (Triumph USA) said they wanted to keep the price and repairability of the 4 ? So I would think the 2-3-4 kit should work as I assume the chassis and rear body must be based on the 4, otherwise how would it work ?

On the plus side the live axle cars work really well, thats why the race and rally boys use them, predictable and safe. 30% uprated shockers and enlarged, reinforced brackets is all you need.

I'd explore that before any conversion

;) Merry Christmas

Mike,

The chassis on the live axle 4a is a strange affair that is different to the normal live axle 4 chassis. I've never seen one in the flesh but understand that they are more like the 4a chassis.

Obviously, the axle and suspension arrangements are nothing like those on the 4a.

I suspect that the only solution here will be to talk to one of the specialist suppliers who are likely to have suitable experience of all chassis, axle and suspension arrangements.

There are a number you could talk to, including Revington TR, TR Enterprises etc etc

Good luck

David

Hi Ray, I am confused, is your 4A an IRS car, if it is then my experience with Konis may help. either reply here or email me on 'chris.russell4a@tiscali.co.uk' and I will expand.

Best regards and Merry Christmas

Chris

Yes David, the late U.S. TR4A live axle cars have the same chassis frame as the local TR4A's exept that the bridge taking the springs has been removed.

The leaf springs are attached to the outside trailing arm bracket points and to a kind of extension of the rear crossmembers.

I am wondering myself why to change a TR to telescopic shocks?

With a little rework the lever shocks are very sufficent and will serve even a very hard driven TR very well.

Cheers

Chris

My 4a is indeed live axle, not IRS. Quite a few have been re-imported back into Britain. The Moss accessories catalogue. TRACC1-06, lists kits for, I quote, TR2-4a live axle, and TR4a-6, live axle. I'm beginning to get a horrible feeling that both are misprints and that there is no kit for this car. I think my next call is to Moss.
