TR674
Hello, I have a small grub type screw in the back (fire wall side) of the rocker shaft. I assume it's a clean out point if the oil ways get blocked. As this screw has fallen out a couple of times, can I lock-tight it in place? I've never had an oil blockage in the shaft (or anywhere else) and fail to see it's relevance.
RogerH
Hi, I would have thought it was simply a blanking screw to close the oil way through the shaft. I would also Loctite it in place - use 221 or 222 http://www.loctite.co.uk/threadlocking-9150.htm Roger
BlueTR3A-5EKT
If you mean the one screwed into the aluminium pedestal at the back it is there to locate the shaft and blank the oil way exit. See here items 32 & 33 https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr5-6/engine/cylinder-head-fittings/cylinder-head-assemblies-tr5-6.html Peter W
RogerH
Hi Pete, I assumed he meant the one in the end of the shaft itself. But as you say the one in the pedestal is there to locate the shaft. It could still be locked with 222 Roger
TR674
Yes, it's part 32. Lock-tight it?
Waldi
Hi Roger, Is Loctite 222 also the product to use on crank shaft plugs and oil gallery plugs? Thanks, Waldi PS: tried to PM you, but got a message your inbox was full. Edited March 12, 2018 by Waldi
RogerH
Hi Waldi, Im not sure if Loctite was used on the crank grub screws. I know they are very tight to get out. 222 would keep them in if required. On the 4 cylinder engines the oil gallery plugs are Aluminium and are screwed in very tight with some sealant (Hylomar etc). I'm sure the tightness causes the threads to bind so do not unscrew on their own. I had an engine that had steel oil gallery plugs. These did not want to screw down at all. So I launched them into my waste bin. Roger PS - mail box empty now.
Waldi
Thanks Roger. There was some sealant on the plugs when I removed them. Regards, Waldi You have a PM.
