Drewmotty
Does the little breather in the top of the overdrive casing have any working parts in it or is it just a 90 degree hole? Mine is missing so if its just a hole Ill make one.
Hamish
There is nothing in mine. Similar to this. https://www.bighealey.co.uk/breather-ovd162 Some people have drilled the top plate to allow the box to breath. RogerH
Hi Andrew, have a look here http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/64755-breathers-on-tr-gearbox/ post #3 shows an additional breather hole in the GB top cover with split [in to keep it clear. Drewmotty
Thanks Guys I'd found your previous post Roger. There was no evidence of a gearbox breather so the hole is on the list. I'll be taking your advice on Quad seals for the selector shafts too. The overdrive breather had been replaced by a solid plug (which I can drill out to make into a breather) but the reversing switch and seatbelt warning switch holes (its a TR6 box) were left open and were dribbling oil. I fitted plugs to prevent the leak and then started to investigate how the transmission was supposed to breath as with the plugs fitted the unit was sealed. I was only going to fit a new clutch plate and as usual the job has expanded a bit (due to the hedgehog growing on the magnetic g'box drain plug) so now I've got a gearbox and overdrive in it's component parts looking like a diagram from a parts manual and a long list of spares required. RogerH
Hi Andrew, may I suggest, that whilst the GB/OD is out, that you fit the switch for the Reverser lights. This will save a lot of heart ache in the future when you decide to fit rev lights. Lace the wire to the boot area and leave until required. I had to pull mine apart to fit the switch. These are my rev lights. Not to every bodies taste but work as TRiumph should have done. Roger
