Raceterations brackets and Koni shocks?

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

I have a set of raceterations rear telescopeic shock absorber brackets and would like to fit Koni shocks. I've heard that these aren't compatible because of the travel length of the shock is to small and will bottom out on the shock rather than the bump stop.

I've had a bit of a measure, and there's not a lot in it, has anyone successfully fitted them ? I'm the thinkng of a bigger/higher bumpstop ?

Cheers Mark.

Hi Mark

When you say not a lot in it, that might well be enough, and might cause skittishness ( if indeed that's a word) in your rear suspension. If the travel is too short it will also work in reverse, and might pick the wheel up in rebound, so not good either.

I would say you are best to look around for some dampers with the correct length personally.

I have the racetorations brakets and spax shocks on my car, and on the previous one, i like them.

My spax shocks are quite old and i would also like to replace them sometime soon.

Are the dimensions known, or is this a racetorations specific fact/secret?

Hi, both.

Had a proper look today, removed the spring refitted the shock and jacked the trailing arm up. Not until the bump stop is fully compressed and the rear of the car is lifting did the shock start to bottom out. This would take some doing Dukes of hazard sort of driving.

I think if the bump stop was say 10mm bigger it would never bottom out, are the TR4 bumps bigger,or even a spacer under the existing.

I went for Koni's as they are reputedly a better shock.

Cheers Mark.

Have you spoken to Darryl ?

Revington does a spring over damper solution for the rear end of IRS TRs, and I believe that the dampers are made specially for him as a shorter stroke is required. However, if Darryl's solution puts the damper outside the spring, then Revington's damper (unless adjustable) might be unsuitable.

Hi Ian.

No I haven't spoken to him yet, it was a concern after I'd fitted them, I'd heard stories of trailing arms breaking but after having a proper measure I'm not over worried.

Hi Mark

I like Koni shocks more thn spax, but last time i looked the ‘adjustment’ required removing them from the car!

Is that still the case?

Hi Steve.

Unfortunately yes it is, not so much of an issue on the rear bit more of a job on the front. I've started just off the softest setting and see how it goes.

Mark.
