I seem to remember the factory introduced a modifcation to the handbrake, early on

in TR2 production.Does anyone know what it was?

I'm just about to send mine off for plating and have noticed that the gusset at the base

of the lever, connecting tube to bell-crank, has cracked and will require strengthening/welding.

Is that anything to do with?

Cheers

Having trawled the web, I've now come across a reference in Piggotts Original TR Restorers

Guide, and it would seem to be the first engineering change made:-

TS 213 December 1953 'Stronger handbrake assembly fitted'.

Where the weakness lay, of course, it doesn't say!

My car, TS70L is a month earlier, so, unless it's been changed at some point,

I assume it still has the 'weaker' item.

PeteW is kindly sending a picture of a later example so's to compare.

Looking at later handbrakes I have here (Same as yours) I suspect yours was changed by the original dealers to the stronger one. I cant be sure but I think the small angle piece that has split away on yours is the mod.

Thankyou Pete and Stuart!

Seems I'm probably already upgraded.

Presumably the original items were so poor in service, most

if not all, were replaced donkeys years ago!

As far as the grip is concerned, I believe that problem has existed

almost as long as the original design. The only way around it would

appear to be threaded metal incorporated into the aftermarket

grip making progress?

Thanksto all

The grip breakage has been a problem for years, basically they are made out of very fragile plastic and due to the way you grab it it gets turned on the thread a bit too far which breaks it. You could try some threadlock on it and dont screw it up tight then let the threadlock go off so it doesnt move, another item for PQI I would have thought.

Stuart.
