Menno van Rij
Earlier I posted a question about a welding job for a car currently in the shop where they restored my TR3A. The TR 6 comes without an overdrive and the owner wants to have one installed. The guys at the shop have located a source (well I gave them the number of the guy) who happens to own a few dozen g/boxes+overdrives. A types and J types. We wanted to establish what kind of OD this TR should have gotten in the factory. So we looked for the chassis#. The number is easy to read and it starts with CP50...., making it a 1970 car. But what I noticed was the last part of the number; it ends with 'LP'. And no, not 'LO'. There's no error here; it's LP. I know what the L stands for, but what about the P? Answers on a postcard - or in this thread, please. Menno Edited December 15, 2017 by Menno van Rij
Rob Salisbury
Hi Menno, have a look at the MossEurope website section on TR6 body and chassis, a 1970 CP chassis would have had an A type overdrive, check to see if the chassis has brackets No.31 & No.32 welded on and the cross member No.65, this will confirm an A type overdrive, ..... the later CR chassis has the brackets No.33 and crossmember No.66. Sorry I haven't a clue what the P stands for. LP? ....Vinyl records, yes please, played through a valve amp and big speakers, music to my ears!! Cheers, Rob
saffrontr
Menno, The suffix LP on the "chassis" number signifies that the TR6 was assembled at Mechelen in Belgium. cheers Derek

Marc R
Additional info, on top of the suffix "P", the TR6 assembled (CKD) at Mechelen (Duch) /Malines (French) in Belgium for the European/Continental market, before the prefix of the std comm. n° must have a 1. => Have a look to find the "1" For exemple on my TR6 CP, assembled (suppose to be a '71CKD) at Mechelen/Malines in Belgium the comm n° is 1CP53xxxLP, with: - (i) Prefix 1 and suffix P for CKD Mechelen/Malines, - (ii) the std comm. n°: with - Prefix CP for TR6 CP - Serial number 53xxx - Suffix L for LHD FYI, on this car the OD is a A type serial n° 22/6198(or 6?)5/000916 Regards Edited December 16, 2017 by Marc R
