Does this noise disappear when you go into 4th gear when driving? If it does its the lays/haft bearings and lay/shaft it's a very common fault! Be very careful where you buy the lay-shaft from, as there are soft ones out there awaiting the unsuspecting TR Parts buyer. I was nearly caught out last year! You have to do the file test on the edge of the shaft, this is how I caught Moss out. Bruce. Bruce.
Austin Branson
+1 for Bruce. It can also be the bearing on the first motion shaft (input shaft), I think I would change that too. Let us know how you get on, please. Austin

Kiwifrog
If it stops when you press the clutch down it could be the clutch release bearing, not quite as bad as a gearbox rebuild Cheers Alan
