Another one for Restoration?

Recommended Posts

Yes, the last couple for restoration have been around the £15-20K Mark.

It will probably get removed and some private deal done like the last one?

You would expect a better set of photos, I can't even enlarge whats been added, no mention of any panels with it only the 4a tub at an extra cost.

Purchase price plus panels plus specialist labour plus bare metal plus engine rebuild plus chassis equals expensive resto.

In the text the owner says ' I repeat the car is in need of a full restoration '! Can't say I'd noticed!!

His quotes for restoration average at 50K in his own words and he states the car will be worth that at the end. Yes, worth £50K (maybe) but adding in a speculative reserve of £15K that's a £65,000 TR5. This has to be a DIY resto I would think which will most likely take years, to make it anywhere near viable.

Too rare to break though?

Also remember that when a company quotes for restoration they don't usually include VAT so there's another £10k to be added to the bill. From my personal experience of having a TR3a professionally restored something like a 1000 hours of labour went into it plus parts and materials. £50k for restoration would be a bargain!

Yes I agree Tim. There's always unforeseen extras too that will take this well over. It might be worth considering using a half decent TR4a, or the shell he has , but then I'm not keen on re-shells. Hard to call that a restoration.

Bit like the 50 year old broom that's only had one new head and two new handles since new.

Hi Kevin,

I see theres a restored TR5 shell on a CTM chassis in the Register Buy/Sell area for £8500. Wonder if these two will come together at some point ?!

Regards,

Michael

Hopefully a true Enthusiast has bought it, we may even know the person.

And if that is the case I am sure they will build it as a true TR5, why wouldn't you ?

A bit harsh saying it will turn out as a bitsa ! As many cars have hard major parts replaced already.

The seller did achieve a good price in my opinion, I reckon you can still buy a complete car for that money, its all about "time and place "

Have fun this winter,

Conrad.

I'm not at all surprised at the selling price?

Its another one saved and to be restored hopefully so it must be a good thing.

Agreed Gary, we all have a soft spot for our TR's, and go through a long process, and great expense do get them back on the road, for our enjoyment.

I would have thought that's it's a private buyer, so will be doing a lot himself, or maybe someone with really deep pockets !!

These projects are still out there, keep looking.

Cheers,

Conrad,

Ps .. probably not doing Newark Autojumble tomorrow, forecast is ominous !!
