Jim F
Hi, I'm looking for advice on securing door glass into the window regulator. Moss etc reference rubber strips in the regulator channel and then, I assume, there's an adhesive involved. So to the question - is the rubber really needed and what adhesive is the best to use? Thanks.
Geko
There shouldn't be any adhesive involved, only the rubber strip BUT if the channel is old it probably lost its rigidity and the clamping effect will be reduced. You may then apply clear silicone glass sealant or any contact adhesive between the rubber and the glass. Edited November 9, 2017 by Geko
TR 2100
You will need the rubber strip and don't be too hasty with the glue. 1. I reckon you are more likely to find a problem with getting the glass and rubber into the metal channel, 2. If you get the position of the glass just right first time, it will be beginners luck rather than judgement! 3. Check the final alignment of the window fully wound up. On my (original) TR4, they aren't too bad, though definitely room for improvement (and not the same side to side!) AlanR
Jim F
thanks for the advice. I'll try it dry and see if i can get by without sealant , jim
peejay4A
Don't be afraid to use a rubber mallet to knock the glass into the channel with the rubber strip in place. It's very strong in compression.
