She has to go

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that my 4a has got to go. The real pleasure I got from her was tinkering to keep her sweet. I am finding it increasingly difficult with worsening eyesight and dodgy knees to do that and since I sold the business no longer have it in a heated aircraft hangar so is consigned to a rented garage with no power, not ideal. The car is not pristine, just a good rust free original example. What is she worth?

One owner since 1975

Original panels except drivers front wing and boot lid that were changed for stanparts in 1986

Paint done in 1986 is OK but needs some work

New chrome wire wheels this year

New carbs this year

New drive shafts, T/A bushes and U/J's this year

front and rear suspension upgraded

normal slight oil leak from rear crankshaft seal.

Time for someone else to enjoy her. It has only done 25,000 miles!

Thoughts please

Simon :-(

Simon, I recently sold my 1967 4a but for different reasons, I just wanted a change and bought a Morgan but still visit this site for the wealth of knowledge not just of TR's but classic vehicle in general.

My car was a older (20 years) chassis up restoration which was done very well. 5 years ago I needed to have the engine rebuilt after a split liner in total it had 87,000 on the clock. I had done some improvements including suspension bushes, CV drive shafts and electronic ignition. I did receive one offer from a dealer of £17k but decided to sell on commission with a company who suggested £25k who sold it for the asking price within two days of it appearing on their web site. Total return after commission and some small cosmetic jobs £23k.

Sad to see it go in some ways but happy with the result ane the Morgan

Thanks for that. I am getting the feel that the car is about £26,000 after somebody does a good paint job and few cosmetics. Assuming that is £5-6,000 plus £1k for the agro it is putting it now at about £18-19,000. I think I would be happy with that as long as I approve of her new owner!
