Drewmotty
I have the front suspension from my TR4 spread all over the workshop at the moment undergoing a full rebuild after what started as replacing the rubber boot on one top ball joint for MOT! I have Revington road/rally springs fitted with SuperPro collars top and bottom. Now the conundrum......... The collars are a good fit on the spigot inside the suspension towers but are a good 6mm bigger i/d than the locating spigot on the spring pan. The collars are a good fit on an old TR4a spring pan which I pulled out of a spares box as the spigot is a lager diameter. Is the discrepancy due to the TR4 originally having alloy spacers above shorter/ smaller diameter? standard springs?....the 4a not having the spacer would then have a bigger spigot on the spring pan for a bigger diameter spring to match the top spigot? Do the suppliers now supply the same springs for all and let them find their own resting place? Has anyone made turned spacer rings or special collars to take up the discrepancy? or used 4a spring pans? I'm guessing here; can anyone confirm the theory? Cheers Andrew W 40 years of TR ownership and still learning.
james christie
You shouldn't have to live with this kind of hassle. - unless someone has done modifications. Give your supplier a call and explain. If it's Revington you can be sure they will take an interest James
Drewmotty
Spoke to Revingtons today and they confirmed that the collars are the same part number across the models implying that the sloppy fit between spring pan and collar/spring is standard/ normal on solid axle TRs.
