Thanks Roger I have been looking at that, I am getting on with the restoration of my 62 TR4 my dash is cracked and broken, I have the chance to secure a good used TR4a dash here in NZ from another part of the country, Pure originality isnt an issue for me with this resto as I am making a works replica look a like, I just want to get an accurate idea of whether the size etc of a 4a dash is the same, as on the surface they look very similar.

cheers

Hi guys

My mistake it is the wood veneer part of the Dash I am referring to that is cracked and split, not the metal backing behind.

Thats floored me Bob I had assumed the dash had changed from the metal dash part way thru the TR4 run, as my car has a veneer dashboard yet the car is a late 62. Moss shows a veneer dash for a TR4 and a different part No for the TR4A veneer dash but dont have them in stock, I am guessing my dash was fitted at a later stage.

interesting

TR4 did not have any wood - just the metal.

Bob.

A wood-finished dash was available for the TR4:

Very rare in the UK, not uncommon in the US.

I have a feeling that the metal backing for a TR4

dash was the same even when a wood dash was

fitted, but probably not exactly the same on TR4As.

Hi - if you look at Classical Dash's website ( http://classical-dash.co.uk/product-detail/triumph-tr4-tr4a/) they show a wooden dashboard option for the TR4 which when compared with their standard 4A one, does show a difference in particular around the central switch plinth - you should be able to make a 4A wooden dash fit but you may have to shave a bit off in this area.

The metal dash (TR4) and metal backing for the 4a are different, but the later can be fairly easily modded to fit - IIRC the main differences are the switch plinth fixing screw mounting which protrudes further outwards on the 4A ( cant remember if its in a slightly different position as well) but easily modded to match the 4 one, the hole for the steering column which is a different shape, but either one works, the location of the lighting rheostat ( as already mentioned) and possibly the mountings for the glove box lid hinges ( again as mrntioned in an earlier post)

Should be eminently do-able so good luck

cheers
