Soundproofing and Spray Masks

Recommended Posts

We have in Dorset / Hampshire / Wiltshire a small chain of large swag shops, as in you name it they'll clear it . . . .

Useful for all sorts of stuff on occasion . . . . https://www.in-excess.com/ . . . . the kind of outfit where stock changes by the day.

Currently they have lots of soundproofing material . . . . coyotes' cojones, damn good stuff and a bargain.

Another goodie is 3M face masks complete at less than the cost of a decent pair of filters . . . . proper job

Usual disclaimers, I'm just a customer !

Cheers

Alec

Hi Alec, hope things are getting better for you.

Thanks for the heads up, haven’t been in there for awhile and I didn’t realise they were an online shop too. Very handy.

Thanks for the link Alec,

Good to see you still plugging away and thinking of others.

Just ordered the very same 3m face mask via amazon, arriving today with Mr Postie.

Looking through the rest of the listing plenty more bargains to be had.

Cheers Mark

Also worth noting that the filters are for particulates, not much use when trying to avoid toxic fumes from spraying paint. Only adding this due to the topic title being misleading.

If you want to use these masks for spray painting the 6099 ABEK2P3 are the filters to have..

Mark

3M 2138 filters are good for cellulose spraying but any sort of 2pack needs a proper full face air fed mask.

Not entirely true...Sundstrom do advertise they have a non-air-fed option http://srsafety.odp.se/files.aspx?f_id=5995as well. I guess you make your own decisions.

I agree however that air fed is preferable though..BUT.. even an air-fed mask can cause issues unless the correct carbon and particle filters are used in the air you are fed. Any sort of airborne oil particulates can be hazardous (after all, prolonged exposure even in engine oil can be carcinogenic). Remember to ensure the air source is also outside of the range of the spray particles as well (have seen someone with the air compressor NEXT to the spray booth outlet!!)

ANY exposed skin when spraying 2pak can cause the same issues as inhalation and be aware of the spray extents, i.e you might be safe but who else around you might breathe the spray particles.

I take the pragmatic approach personally and don the full protective suit and gloves with the Sundstrom full face mask with the filter combo they list if Im doing a small job (a few panels or less).

Consider the risks as like most things in my opinion ANYTHING in enough quantities can be dangerous. If you smoke like a train....drink like a fish...spend all day in a spray booth unprotected...same risk profile in my opinion.

Sorry for the derail...thanks Alec for the heads up

Awesome masks but large sold out :(

A couple of lamps which I also purchased at In Excess, both of which I now reckon are particularly good performance and value. . . . .

and

Both have proved really useful as we've made a start on stripping DRN 4D . . . .

Usual disclaimers !

Hi Niall,

I could doubtless pick up for you along with James' and despatch more economically to Ireland, and carriage is like as not the same for 2 or 4 items.

Having bought one of each of the lamps I mentioned, I tried them and bought a second of each. Bloody excellent bits of kit !

Cheers

Yep, would have saved a pound there !! Hey Ho.

Bob.

Only one pound Bob?

I had my light delivered today, and emailed them to express my disappointment that it would have been cheaper to buy from ebay rather than their own site, and received a £2 refund! Good service, I'd deal with them again.
