Upper steering shaft thread gone!

Recommended Posts

Just replaced my steering rack and while doing the tracking noticed the steering wheel moved around more than it should. I'd not noticed it while driving because I held on tight because of the slop in the old rack and put it down to the play in that.

I took the steering wheel retaining nut off and the shaft has very little thread left at all.

These shafts seem to be not currently available, anyone have any ideas either where I could source one or have a good safe workaround.

Thanks.

Hi Steve,

easiest thing is to get a second hand shaft. TRy TRshop / TRGB / TR Bitz etc. they must be out there.

Simply repairing the thread would be difficult.

Replacing the threaded end of the shaft would be awkward because of the spline - but not impossibe if you had £1000's to spend.
