Morning All :)

Considering an EZCarLift to make life more comfortable in the garage.

1- Anyone tried one?

2- Anyone fancy trying to get a "Group-Buy" discount?

Thanks!

Hi Adey,

I've not tried an EZCarLift, but I've just been looking around the firm's website and watching the video. As it's a US product, do you need to import it or is there a UK dealer?

It looks easy enough to store (if you have space) and easy to operate. I cannot see anything about pricing on the firm's site, so I don't know how it compares with other lifts.

Earlier this year I purchased a mid-rise scissor lift which I'm very pleased with. Have you considered one of these?

Cheers, Darren

Hi Adey ~

I had these ramps made for me by a local engineering company. The ramps can be jacked up to a horizontal position

and I have complete access to the whole underbody.

Hi Tom,

They look great, however I'm a bit tight for storage space and need to be able to position the lift at an angle in the garage to allow access down the "tight" side, and my driveway is on a slope too.

Whilst more expensive, the ez-lift looks compact and easy to store with minimal faff from hydraulic lines etc

Thanks!

Ade

Hi Darren,

They will export to UK - I think Holden's will be the importer soon.

I've looked at scissor lifts but would prefer something that allows good access to the centre of the vehicle/ gearbox/ exhaust area, and is easy to store too.

Looked at single post lift, but they're pretty huge and I'm not sure I trust the stability...

A narrow 4 post lift would be good, but access would be tight on the "wall" side of the ramp.

Thanks for the replies chaps :)

Something like this maybe ?

full access down the middle with 820mm spacing between the ramps (any wider and a TR chassis will fall through it). Wheel off access is available at each corner and this mid rise allows sitting down on a stool or floor (4" cushion) to work underneath. Cost just under £800 used from e bay (had been a hire shop unit and was "snatched back" after not much work).

Hi Ade,

I looked at many options when researching which would be the most suitable lift for my garage. Mick's set up looked particularly good to me, and he was very helpful in his advice on the subject. However, I couldn't find one like it at the time and in the end full access wasn't a major issue for me, as I only really wanted it for basic type jobs (as those are the only ones I can manage). Discussions with Mick did help me rule out any thoughts I had of getting a post lift, because I wasn't certain my garage floor would be suitable.

I went for the SJR Garage Equipment lift in the end and found it perfect for my needs. I leave it in place, with a couple of planks secured either side of it so as to get clearance. Car is parked over it.

When driving over it forwards, some of the mechanics of the thing does restrict access around the gearbox area a little, but if I needed to I could get around that by reversing over the lift. It's definitely not for the professional, but works well for me.

Let me know if you want a photo of what it looks like from underneath so you can see how accessible things are.

Cheers, Darren

Thanks Darren - excellent info. A photo would be great, but don't go to any bother to get it!!

Mick - love the ramp but can't dig into the floor as I've got underfloor heating in my garage (oh yes..!), I probably need to be able to move the lift into the centre of the garage for work on wall-side as it is tight for space.

Thanks again everyone - can always rely on the Forum for answers!!

That's the great thing Ade, it's no bother at all to put the car up in the air. The first of these photos is from the front, second is from the back. Apologies that they have uploaded the wrong way up, but tilt your head and you'll get the picture. As you can hopefully see, there is only one cross-member with this lift and if the access to where I want to get isn't great with the car one way, I just turn it around.

Thanks Steve. It was just made to be a quick demonstration of the lift in action. I know it's a bit of a cop out, but I'd have never tackled some of the jobs l've done on the car if I hadn't had it, mainly because I'm not confident when comes to axle stands (at least in my ability to get it right!). Plus, I find learning to do something on the car is bad enough for me, without doing it in cramped conditions.

Over a couple of years, it'll pay for itself, too.

It has articulated arms fitted upon the top surface which can be rotated to give a variety of widths of cars and pick up points.

Hi Hamish ~

I'm damned if I had to fit two silencers! I've heard Hearses with 'snortier' exhausts!

The original TR2's with their 18" straight through silencers were the bees knees! ;)

I will replace the 'long' silencer with the 'short' rear silencer hoping for that TR2 'snort'!! :)

Tom.

I have the 2 boxes on my 3a and the noise test scrutineer at shelsley Walsh said it was too quiet !!!

I race in stealth mode apparently.

No problem Adey, happy to. Let me know if you want any more detail on it. And yes, hours of fun indeed. It's perfect in terms of how high it goes, because at maximum it would be above the ceiling of my garage. Only drawback is lack of full, easy access underneath, but for what I do I can get around that.

Hi Pete, As Mick says, it has articulated arms, so width is adjustable. Only issue I found with it was clearance, hence the planks either side. I can take some pictures or film of the lift without the car over it so you can see how the arms work if you want.

I have one of these.

http://www.garageequipment.co.uk/Garage-Lifts/Mobile-Scissor-Lifts/E4G-MR10GR-Scissor-Lift-Mid-Rise-1-Metre-Lift-with

Had it 9 months now and feel it is excellent value for money. Rises to 1M and although it still requires some scrambling around underneath, it is head and shoulders better than axle stands. The fact that it is portable and you can pull it out of the garage to work on a car outside is also great. Had my Jaguar Sportbrake on it and it lifted easily.

Thanks for the offer Darren, but no need.
