TriumphV8
Just decided to work a little bit on my homemade disc kit. This is my trial fitment with the fabricated parts and an old caliper. Disc is cut in the lathe for proper inner and outer diametre. New bores for the bolts are drilled. Spacers are milled for proper thickness. Spacers are cut and drilled to fit Longer bolts in Grade8 are bought and fitted Next step will be the bolts to hold the brake pads ....... and than the whole fun starts for the other side! BlueTR3A-5EKT
Bolts are very important. I have seen the use of low grade and too small diameter bolts on remade / modified calipers in bench tests - The bolts break or the thread strips, causing the caliper to split under extreme braking pressure. Waldi
Peter, Good hint. Just to be sure: The bolts on standard calipers / discs are grade 5, correct? Thanks, Waldi
TriumphV8
Yes, three lines on the top, Grade 8 have 5 of them. Learned that also Grade 8 nuts are availiable not applicable here but might be a good idea to use them on parts where we are not sure.
Andy Moltu
I appreciate this info may be late, but Big red supply the spacer kits ready made http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Type-16-Brake-Caliper-Spacer-kit-Ford-Escort-MK2-Cortina-Capri-/272708018612?epid=859717880&hash=item3f7eaa21b4:g:UkcAAOSwMmBVriaS Supplied for a cortina but they advise that will fit the TR calipers. Which discs did you use? Edited June 26, 2017 by andymoltu
RogerH
EBC also do a kit. It fits well and appears to function OK. Mine has been on for apprx 10 years. However I've given up on their brake pads. Roger
TriumphV8
Mine are Ford Sierra discs and unfortunately they are 24mm. Canley offers such a set, too. I also had the EBC Kit. All are for different sizes and the EBC has dimples in the disc making terrible noise under hard breaking and everybody can see that you did something with the brakes. The Big Red set looks very professionel and is pretty cheap while Canley and EBC look a little bit like homemade......
John Jervis
I fitted the Hi Spec kit a few years ago, I didn't have any issues with the fit:)
jean
Woouuw, But do not really match with the background...
Andy Moltu
I fitted the ECB kit a while back. (I think from Rimmers) The spacers were marginal in terms of thickness and the gr**nsnot pads were appalling. The discs warped slightly so I contacted ECB to get some replacement discs and they denied that the kit came from them! I got some Corrado discs to machine down but the original discs seem to have settled with the fitment of 1144 pads so will save that for the future.
