Bonnet hinges

Recommended Posts

Hi Mark,

I've read that they can be repaired but don;t know the details.

If it is just the rivet - then as Niall states replace with a bolt etc.

if the body of the hinge is worn oversize then you will need to tidy the hole and insert new metal.

They are available new from Moss etc. for apprx £50

Roger

The hinges are easily repairable if you want to repair the original rather than replace (I do). You can drill out the worn rivets and replace them with shouldered bolts, the requisite washers and nylocs. Look at the 6-Pack threads below for the requisite info.

I used shoulder bolts with a shoulder diameter 10,0mm (original is 3/8, so slightly less. Shoulder height is also 10 mm, threaded end is m8 They are according a German standard DIN 923. In the link from Ivor above it is part no 615-203. If you have a LOT of play you can order the next size, but 10 mm worked for me, since the play you feel is a combination of wear in the bolt and the two halves. I used an adjustable reamer (9.5 - 10.5 mm), which costed 5 euro. The hinge now has no noticable play.

Thought I would share this.
