Twicethedriver
I've changed the engine in my TR7 (standard two litre) but the distributor has a multi plug with three wires coming from it instead of the usual one. The engine came from an auto car, could this be the reason? Can I just use one wire or do I need to change the distributor? Bryan.
Peter Cobbold
Bryan, Can't you swap the disy's over? especially if the auto disy has different adv and retard curves from the old manual engine (... that I dont know). Twicethedriver
Sorry. Just checked my trusty Haynes Manual and it looks like I've got a Lucas disy and AC Delco wiring so I'll just swap them over. Thanks.
Alec Pringle
The AC Delco and Lucas distributors are quite different in appearance. The AC Delco unit was a cheap and nasty thing, not particularly accurate even when new and which wore (and therefore dwindled further in accuracy)remarkably rapidly. Lucas distributors worked much better, although normally fitted only on the 16 rather than 8 valve 2 litre engine. The 16V version can be converted to work on the 8V, and Martin Jay (Distributor Doctor) made a cracking job of rebuilding/converting one to suit my son Tom's black Wedge. Note that the Lucas unit requires also the spacer between dissie and block. Cheers Alec
Twicethedriver
Thanks Alec, If I keep the Lucas one, do you know where the three wires would go? Bryan.
