Hi all

What us the smallest electric fan that you can fit?

Still want to use the starting handle!

Im looking at 9/10 inch so as to fit abive the hole in the rad.

2.2 engine but all new rad and liners so no crud in the system

Thanks

Tony

Tony,

I fitted the Moss supplied Revotec fan assy on my TR3A.

The fan and controller work as expected but the fan does draw a lot of amps when running so an alternator may be required. In London traffic at night with wipers, heater, headlamps and cooling fan going the dynamo would not keep up.

This fan was a replacement for my ancient 9" diameter plain bladed Kenlowe, that was attached to the front suspension chassis cross tube behind the radiator using exhaust clamps. I think I have it somewhere still as a spare. See section B23 & figure B23-2 in Technicalities for the style. Prior to this I had the TVG version which was an Escort plastic fan and a hacked Lucas wiper motor. All worked off a simple dash switch.

To retain the starting handle provision I had to cut some of the fan shroud away with a sharp knife and file to give the pulley bolt clearance and allow the fan belt to be fitted.

see photo which is a view upwards from below.

PS To use the starting handle be sure one of the blades is not blocking the drive dog AND Be sure the fan is isolated electrically and can not run when the starting handle is fitted. (I pull the fan supply fuse out)
