Manufacturng Defect?

Recommended Posts

I am a great believer in if it ain't broke don't fix it. But.............. I was seduced by the tails of woe in the Moss catalogue about failing points/condensers/LT leads etc. The car was running fine. I had just bought a carb balancing tool so the carbs were beautifully set up. I had checked the dwell angle and that was a healthy 58 degrees so I really should have left the dizzy alone. However, I purchased the above items but could not get a proper points gap at all. Even at maximum adjustment with the lever on the high point of the cam the points were simply not opening. I put the old points back in and all good. I then noticed that the lever that runs on the cam was marginally shorter on the new points so it could never work. Either the points were made wrong, they were the wrong points or new points have a different method of fitting. Weird. I am going back to I I A B D F I it makes life easier!

Cheers

Thanks for the tip. I double checked my order with Moss and it was certainly the correct part number GCS 2101. I will be sending it back for my 3 quid back. But what about the 2 hours scratching my head at a very reasonable £50 per hour?

Cheers

Hi Simon,

just wait till you do some clutch work and then find it is wrong - 2 hours will look like short tea break in comparison.

Sadly there are still far too many odd/dodgy parts out there.

Do inform Moss as they may have the wrong parts in the bin or listed incorrectly.
