Speedometer retaining strap

Recommended Posts

Having removed the dashboard of my CP TR to renovate the instruments I found there was only one retaining strap on the speedo instead of two (the L shaped bracket held on by the serrated thumb nut).

I'm trying to get hold of a replacement strap and nut but Rimmers say the strap is no longer available and I can't find anything on eBay.

Other than fabricating a new bracket myself has anyone got one going spare they would be happy to sell me?

Definitely try TR shop. My car was the same when I changed my heater over Christmas. I tried several TR specialists including one that wanted my credit card details before checking their stores or confirming a price - when i said I wasn't happy about this they put the phone down!

TR shop came up trumps.

Cheers

Get a bit of aluminium strip from B&Q or similar and just cut and bend to size, drill a hole for the threaded stud and away you go. Takes about 5 minutes. The only problem I had was getting a nut to fit the stud - my local motor factor found some in an old jar ( old school shop!), but still don't know what thread it is.

Cheers

There is a company in South Wales who has all the old Smiths Instruments Tooling and produces a range of exact copies of the originals. That would be the place to try first to see if they would sell you these parts.

Caerbont Automotive Instruments Ltd. 01639 732200. They also manufacture the correct TR6 sender unit for the water temperature gauge which Rimmer & Moss do not sell????

. The thread on the stud I would expect to be BA, as this was a common thread in British made instrumentation.

Bruce.

True but 7.40 is a bit steep!
