dougal
Hi Cinturato History This web site has probably got the most history on it https://www.cinturato.net/ the CA67 tyres came out in 1952 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/pirelli-cinturato-ca67these are the full profile tyres, 155HR15 CA67 for TR2 & 3 and 165HR15 for TR4, TR5 & TR6. Before you have any concerns about these tyres, it is worth remebering that these are the tyres that were used by Maserati, Rover, MG, Lotus, Lancia, Ferrari, etc. When these came out they were very expensive and they were also offered as an option by Jaguar and Aston Martin. There are claims about how rubbish they were in the day, but it just isn't true which is why they were used by the worlds best car manufacturers. The other ones that might be of interest to TR's is the CN36. http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/pirelli-cinturato-cn36 this is one of the first low profile tyres which came out in 1968. I would suggest that if you have put oversize rims on your car then the best tyre you can fit would be the 185/70VR15 CN36. there are only 2 tyres that will work really well as a low profile road tyre on a TR6 and the CN36 is one of them. I'm not talking about cheap tyres. i'm just talking about what is the best tyre for your road car. They also now make the 165VR15 CN36 too, which is the initial reason for my post. I'm considering the Michelin 185/70 XWX, and based on my experience with the XAS expect it to do likewise, i.e. hugely outperform all comers. ( Yes, I know the XWX is too much tyre for a Triumph. ) Will I be disappointed? Cheers, Tom

I agree the XWX is one of the best tyres in the size, but why do you want to fit bigger tyres
Tom Fremont
Hi Dougal, I have 6" wide Panasport wheels, too wide for 165s. The 185/70 is the same diameter as the 165/80, and as you may know 185s were used on all U.S. cars albeit with 80 profile and 3.7:1 diff ratio ( I'm using the 3.45:1 in the TR250 in question ). I'm sure the 185s won't contact the pavement across the tread at normal inflation pressures ( in a straight line, that is! ) but I'm running Michelin Pilot 195/65s which are no doubt worse in that regard; they've been OK for the last 45K miles but don't hold a candle to the XAS tyres on my show car, NLA in 185 sadly, and 16 years old too. Cheers, Tom
dougal
Understood. I would suggest you will get a real treat fitting a period 185/70VR15 XWX http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/185-70vr15-michelin-xwx.html or Cinturato CN36 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/185-70-wr-15-pirelli-cinturato-cn36-n4.html compared to a 195/65R15. driving on a period carcass will be so much nicer. I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Motorsport Mickey
I seem to be a lone voice but having started sprinting in 1985, I fitted the Cinturato CN36 and found them a very nice tyre and considering their road going pedigree to some extent "sticky". Certainly until the P6 came into use in our limited competition range it was my "weapon of choice". I had a set on spare wheels purely for competition use. dougal
Hi Motorsport Mickey The Porsche guys are going mad for these tyres. Have a look at this independent article written about 185/70VR15 tyres http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/classic-porsche-tyres Hopefully later this year we will also have a 175/70VR13 CN36 for the smaller Triumphs too. dougal
As a matter of interest does anyone know when the Cinturato went out of production, my car arrived with four new ones which I still have, I have assumed they are too old to use. Paul The 165HR15 Cinturato CA67 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/165hr15-pirelli-cinturato-ca67.html that is available now came back into production 2 or 3 years ago. I think they were still producing it in 1980, but not in 1984 and The CA67 started production in 1952. The 165VR15 CN36 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/165vr15-pirelli-cinturato-cn36-n4.htmlstarted again last year, but the CN36 started in 1968. they were still making it in 1984 but not in 1990 The same would apply to the 185/70VR15 CN36 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/185-70-wr-15-pirelli-cinturato-cn36-n4.html
