tr3b engine stript, results, etc

Recommended Posts

hi my friendly engine builders,

finally stript the engine, biggest problem was the 4 inner head bolts, after trying different methods

j resulted in taking the pots out, welding nuts on the stud and playing heat on the thread, using a 1 metre bar they finally gave in, I did try soaking them in paraffin but the threads were dry in fact nothing seem to enter the stud hole, I can understand why people run into trouble, if the stud is soft, you have had it.

I had already made my mind up if it snapped i would have gone to a machine shop to have it removed

the stud is just to long to use an extractor (my thoughts for what it's worth)

head height 3.350

head no 510084

cast no on side 312137

cast on top k 23

camshaft no mg 21434. and 301456 also letter h cast on it

I enclose pics of the head, and camshaft

cheers pink (any information gratefully received)

Hi,

The cylinder head that you have was first introduced with the 2138cc engine and it looks to be a cracker - no corrosion between the two centre bores, in fact little corrosion showing anywhere.

I understand that the original overall height of a cylinder head was 3.330".

As for the camshaft that also looks very clean and regular, however it needs to be measured in order to check for any wear.

Have another look at the numbers on it as I think it should read 301466, which would make a standard camshaft to match the 510084 cylinder head.

The excellent condition of the head suggests that the engine has not done much mileage - if so it could be possible that the crankshaft still has standard size journals.

Do you know what the stamped markings are on the shell bearings...?

Regards, Richard
