Paul Down
At what chassis number did Triumph omit the removable panels on the bulkhead? Bill Piggott in his book Original TR 2-3A mentions it occurred for later 3As, if you have 3A without the panels it would be interesting to know your commission number Thanks Paul
foster461
I had always assumed this happened at 60,000 Paul. It would be interesting to know if there is a post 60k TR3A out there with the removable plate to allow conversion to LH/RH drive. My January 1960 TS66329 doesnt have it. Hamish
TS61389 has the plate. Dec '59 I think. It's has the later body with the raised bonnet hinge mounts. Threaded rather than Dzus windscreen fixings. Etc
Graham Harris
TS/57849-L 24 August 1959 didn't have the bulkhead plate but did have all the other brackets and captive nuts for right hand drive setup. I cut a new pedal box and steering column hole with captive nuts for the conversion and it all came out good Edited March 19, 2017 by Graham Harris
TR 2100
My understanding is that the change was made to save money. Options - fabricate all bodyshells to be either rhd or lhd, with blanking plates or Fabricate all bodyshells as lhd and cut out as required for any rhd models. As the great majority of TRs went to the US, particularly at the time of the tooling changes, bodyshells became lhd as standard with holes cut for rhd as required. I have looked at many TRs over the years and there are quite a few anomalies so, as ever, it's not always as clear cut as you may think. AlanR

Threaded rather than Dzus windscreen fixings. Etc I think we (LHD cars) all got the cage nuts (with bolts) for the RHD pedal assembly. Confused the heck out of me until I asked here. Do you also have the cage nuts for aeroscreens ? Stan

james christie
Mine is TS61311 Nov 1959 and has the plates. - Made life a lot more simple when it was converted from rhdto lhd some years ago. No aero screen cage nuts. Yet the front does not have raised bonnet hinges although the rear has. James

Car is away having tonneau amended to compensate for new roll bar so can't look. H Edited March 19, 2017 by Hamish
Ian Vincent
Mine TS63xxx started life as a LHD Car and didn't have the plate. I bought one on eBay and cut the relevant openings on the RHD when I converted it. I made and fitted captive nuts on the LH side. Rgds Ian
Paul Down
Many thanks for all your replies. I should have read Bill P's book more carefully as he said " that after inspecting two cars with original bodies from the TS 69xxx series only one had the removable blanking plate on the passenger side". So generally later TR3A but with some anomalies. Typical TriumphTR!
