Front Suspension - rubber seals

Recommended Posts

Checking over a TR5 , as a favour , I've discovered the seal ( No142402 trunion to vertical link ) has perished.

Ditto .. lower wishbone sealing rubber rings (2 x No 142387 ) are like crusty rubber bands.

Trunions and joints themselves are all in great clean condition , with no ingress of the usual crud.

I've dealt with similar on my TR4 but has anyone experience of the MOT man's policy on "cutting the seals in half , installing and joining the seals with mastic " to save on dismantling all the front suspension ? Does it come into the split ball joint rubber boots arena ?

I think I know the answer but I have this very , very faint hope !! Any input please guys and gals ?

Thanks

Bob

TBH on a 5 its not very difficult to change them without much drama without even having to remove the spring but if your really in a hurry then just cut and stick with super glue.
