How to have headlights up but not lit

Recommended Posts

I use my Tr7 V8 on classic rallies and targa events and having the headlamps up makes it far easier to place on the tests around the course markers, However I don't really want to have the headlamps on. Is there an easy way wire up something so I can have the headlamps up without the lights on? Still need the option to have them up and on as well.

I could fix them up all the time but want the option to have them down.

Thanks,

Wingo

Hi Wingo,

Really easy. Just disconnect the plugs that feed the motor from behind the headlamp panel in the engine bay (not the lights, one is red and the other white and just at the moment I can't remember which is the motor and which is lights, but you'll soon find out!).

Then manually wind up the lights using the screw knob on each motor accessible from the front of the wheelarch. Then hey presto the lights can be turned on and off but the motors disabled in the up position.

Thanks for that. I'll put the headlamps up then disconnect the red plugs.

Just had another headlamp related battle. Various problems with just dip beam, one light out then both out.

Eventually sorted with a bit of a rewire and fixing a problem with the fuse box. Nothing as simple as a blow bulb unfortunately.

Now got a power steering fluid leak to sort, fluid leaking the pressure pipe where it goes into the rack, its's been getting progressively worse, there looks to be some sort of sealing washer, part number EAW517 I think.

Also many thanks, made changing the headlights on the V8 dead easy today.

But what a faff the big wobbly rubber bits are! Don't know if its standard but these were on with neat allen headed screws, but trying to get all 4 lined up is a real pain, any three no problem, but the 4th regardless which one you left last to start a real pain. I wouldn't mind but as far as I can see they are a useless piece of decoration, if they were actually designed to keep driving rain out of the headlight pods it wouldn't be too bad, but as far as I can see they have the opposite effect and would neatly collect and funnel rain in around the headlight unit and into the pod. Told Chris no driving in the rain with the headlights on :)
