That is a very broad question.

Size of webers - 40DCOE, or 45s, or hype-rare 42s?

Preference/requirement for top linkage or underslung?

Preference/requirement for cable of rod linkage?

Would Mizunu alternatives meet your requirements?

As for manifolds, be aware there can be a clearance problem with

the manifolds and the brass fixings nuts. On my TR4, by the time

the manifolds were ground back enough to allow a spanner on the

nuts, the manifold wall was wafer-thin.

I ended up with period manifolds but they are so hard to find that

it is hardly a solution.

They are for a 2.2 4 pot so 40,s

Do u buy from the usual suspects or are there any other options

Thanks

When I was considering this route, the path I would have taken was Moss during one of their 17/20% off sales.

Who needs two carbs, one SU is ample

when the engine is fed by a blower. :)

Webers might give a marginal gain over SUs,

but a blower will give 20-30% more oomph.

So on cost-of-benefit basis the blower will win - easily.

I have Webers on one car & SU's on the other. Both pairs have been set up well & quite honestly there is not a huge difference in performance from one to the other, Webers give around 10bhp more. I think a good setup with SU's is a good compromise with ease of tuning/servicing & would probably be the direction I would go if starting from scratch.

Cheers.

It's interesting to see a reply from someone with both setups and in a position to make a direct comparison.

10hp is well worth having but where in the rev range does that extra horsepower become apparent and at what cost in terms of fuel consumption?

Have a guess... but then let me tell you, over 5000 revs but the SUs work a little better in the 2000-4000 revs area and are a couple of mpg better. This is all depending upon what cams general power delivery and driving style is of course.

Around 4000 rpm with only a slight increase in fuel consumption with the Webers (around 24 mpg compared to say 28). Cams & other mods in both cars similar.

Regards.

Thanks for all the replies

An extra 10hp would be good but to be honest its just the look of them in the engine bay!

Suppose its a flash back to my youth!

If anyone has a pair of 40's gathering dust let me know

Thanks

Tony
