mjdearing
Hello chaps im just rebuilding my 1949 roadster 2000 engine i have a set of nos 85mm pistons and liners but im short of 2 compression rings,so my question is can 86mm rings be trimmed to fit or will the whole shape be compromised even though its only a 1mm difference,i can get some tractor ones but not sure of quality. Any thoughts please. Martin
stuart
Years ago when tractor 85mm piston/liners were all that was available quite a few TR`s were run on them so I would have thought they would be OK, I wouldnt go down the 86 and shrink route! Motorsport Mickey
No, Trimming the 86mm rings won't give them the correct radial loading imposed by their size and curvature, as Stuart says I'd go for the tractor 85mm rings as the best compromise.
