TR6 Stromberg CD2 fixed jet height and needle

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am after a bit of advice again but this time with some info about the fixed jet height in my 2 stromberg 175 CD-2 (C3150) carburetor's on my early 1969 TR6 (Ex US spec).

I bought a spare carburetor off ebay for £5 and thought it might be good fun to refurbish it to learn about them so I purchased a service kit for the carburetor to play with. One thing i am unsure of is the height of the fixed jet that needs to be pressed into the carburetor body. Does anyone have any experience of this height as i do not have access to my TR6 much at the moment so i cant measure the existing height and the spare did not come with a jet installed.

This is the jet and the recessed height i am looking for. I have searched the web and only really found one possible measurement that it should be recessed by 0.095 inches but i would like to confirm this somehow....

Thanks

Interesting question, that got me trawling as I have in the past had adjustable jets Strombergs, or have been fortunate that all the sets of fixed jets ones have been NOS so I haven't played with the jets only the adjustable needles. However from reading I realise that there is some adjustment also available with fixed jets i.e. the Volvo tools.

I could find no reference to the fixed bridge to jet height for Triumphs (doesn't mean it doesn't exist just that I couldn't find it) but it does appear that different jet heights were used by different manufactures but the range always appears to be between .090 and .125 however there also appears to be some confusion between if that should be a measurement to the recessed centre of the jet or the outside edge.

So sorry no answers, but I do have a set of NOS Triumph fixed jets in the workshop, I'll try and measure and report back.

Speak to Burlen, as well as making all the SU parts + carbs, they also now do the Zenith Stromberg and have an extensive catalogue on these carbs. They may also have a tuning sheets or a book Zenith carbs, like they do for SU?

Good Luck,

Bruce.

Hi Anthony,

I took the same measurement for a start. But You need pressing tools to adjust the correct mixture while the engine is running. Greetings Sugar

Thanks for that, i had not seen those tools before. It took me a while to work out how to press them out and press them back in but those tools would of certainly made it easier!

I actually did contact Burlen in the end, so thanks for that suggestion. They advised that the jet should be pressed into the body 0.100 inches below the deck. They also confirmed that it should be 0.100 inches to the raised outer edge of the jet, NOT the recessed jet center. They also confirmed that this height would be fine with the B2Y fixed needle that my 1969 175 CD-2 strombergs use.

Hopefully doing it as advised by Burlen will produce the correct mixture without having to make any or just small adjustments.

  • 3 years later...

Bit cheeky I know, not being a TR forum member but would appreciate advice - thanks

I've got Strombergs on my Stag and looking to overhaul and replace jets, I tried many years ago with simple press and messed it up, I'd like to do it myself rather than elsewhere - have a few ideas on guides etc then someone showed me this link and a Volvo tool - brilliant, just what I envisaged!

Is it easy to get hold of the tool (at a reasonable price) - Google doesn't come up with anything...?

Cheers

Paul
