Just done an oil & filter change on the '3. On the last change I fitted a spin on oil filter adaptor (Purolator type) from Rimmers Part No. RF4022.

The old filter was removed without spilling a drop, & the new one, once fitted, shows no sign of leaking anywhere.

So much easier & cleaner than the old cartridge type.

Bob.

Interesting, isn't it, that a number of modern engines have gone back to cartridge filters. My Lexus RX350 has such a filter -- a tiny little thing compared to our TRs. A few years ago I had to take it back to the (excellent) shop who does all my real-car work because of an oil leak, due to the o-ring not being seated properly when the canister housing was remounted.

Some things never change.

When it leaks because the mechanic didnt remove the old O-ring from the recess we will have come full circle.

I think that's exactly what it was, Stan!
