Engine Bay Drain

Recommended Posts

The pic below is for the water that comes down the windshield, across the cowl, and goes into the gutter at the rear of the bonnet.

The shape of the bonnet should minimize the water that runs into the side gutters. I frankly can't remember where the side gutters drain.

Hi John/Ed,

the side gutters to the bonnet drain in the same place as in the photo of Ed's screen drain.

Imagine a 1/2" hole in the vertical flange of the gutter (inner wing) immediately forward of Ed's fabricated funnel.

This hole is flush with the horizontal surface of the gutter.

The underwing pipework could then joint the plenum drain and go out at the bottom of the wheel arch.

The gutter outlet is at the top of the black line

Thats for a 4/4a/5 Roger, totally different for a 6. I construct a box acting similar to Eds.

Stuart.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. There is only one drain hole at the offside, but don't want to remove the wing to construct a drain box as Stuart's photo shows.

I have just repaired the plelum chamber and connected the drains into the wheel arch.

I am going to make a plate with a hose connector attached and slot it in from the top.

Best Regards JohnR

Pondering over what to do with my gutter and plenum drains, I notice from various posts both these drains have been linked together, if by chance the outlet gets blocked the plenum would soon fill with water from the top gutter.

So thinking of installing two pipes.

Anyone else done this?

Mark

There is access to inside the front wing by removing a splash panel (either side). You may be aware of this.
