john.r.davies
Anyone noticed this in the 2017 Blue Book? Q 19.1.3.(a) There must be substantial towing eyes securelyfixed to the main structure of the vehicle, frontand rear, within the confines of the body toenable the vehicle to be moved. Cars of periodsA to F and single seater racing cars are exemptfrom this requirement subject to a suitable towingpoint being clearly identified. Towing eyes musthave a minimum internal diameter of 60mm.Towing eyes/towing points should be painted acontrasting bright colour (dayglo red, orange oryellow, marked with an arrow and the word “tow”.( The following configuration and specifications arestrongly recommended:Vehicles to be equipped with two front and tworear towing eyes positioned equally either side ofthe longitudinal center line. The towing eyes to be made of steel wire rope ofat least 6mm diameter with a 6x19 wire core. Each towing eye to have a breaking-strain of atleast 2 tons and allow the passage of a cylinderwith a diameter of 60mm.The towing eye to be fixed to a structural part ofthe chassis with a minimum of M10 (Grade 8.8)fixings, the inner part must be flexible in order forthe towing eye to be retracted inside the bodyworkprofile.Towing eyes should be situated 25mm forward ofthe adjacent bodywork with clearance of 100mmabove and below to enable recovery crews toattach straps and shackles.A “pull-cord” to be attached to the towing eye toenable the marshals to access it. The endattached to the chassis may be either ‘thimble’ or‘open-loop’ style. Apparently it was an alternative last year, but "strongly recommended" this. Probably compulsory next. Motorsport Mickey
Many of this years racers have a neatly folded strap complete with integral stitched large dia 60mm steel ring material secured with a tie wrap against the front of the cars, sounds like a development of this being promoted. Hamish
Am I right in thinking that for the TR sprints etc. One doesn't need to upgrade from webbing tow loops to these wire ones?
