Turn signal defect

Recommended Posts

LHD TR4 1964 with non-working left front turn signal indicators, lamps not defect. The rear left works, dashboard light too, but flashes rapidly. Looking at the schematic I suspect a interrupted wire behind the connector where 1x GR meets 2x G. Where about can I find this connector?

Thanks!

Erik

Great!

When I told my wife that the left indicator flashed rapidly she immediately knew there was a broken light or an interrupted wire, apparently in the "old days" rapid flashing was a telltale sign of a defective lamp; I did not even know that :)

Now the lamps are not defective, which is why I need to measure the wiring.

Now when looking at the diagram I can see another connector joining the front left indicators at a position GR/GR/GR, where rear and front come together; there too might be a fault; where would I find that one?

Thanks!

Erik

Hi Erik, it's probably a poor connection in one of the bullit connectors in the loom ahead of the rad.

If they are more than a few years old its worth replacing all the female ones and cleaning/checking all the bullits.

Hi RogerH, stuart and potts4a, thanks for the replies: indeed a bad contact in the wiring loom at the radiator. I replaced the male and female bullets. But then one of the headlights stopped working: same issue. I will replace all those bullet connectors asap.

Erik - excellent that your wife has been brought up with an awareness of tell-tale signs such as rapid flashing of the trafficator repeater lamp.

Make sure that she always accompanies you in the TR - in fact, perhaps she ought to be the one driving!

Hi Erik, pleased to hear you've fixed it, theres a load more bullits around the boot area feeding all the lights and the read indicators, best to change them all while your at it?

My suggestions: The bullets on wiring will come clean with a rub from fine wet and dry, so just change the connection tube.

Actually just making and breaking any sliding connection once or twice will usually get things going so you can get a fix and then you can use the car till you make a planned repair session.

Great reply: I showed it to my wife and she fully agrees. In fact, in view of the lack of female contributors here I delegate forum contribution to her :)

Hi potts4a and MikeF, indeed this is the way I will handle this issue. And this summer finish the job completely, I do not like the idea that lights or worse suddenly stops working while for example driving at night on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere.
