nigethomas Posted November 13, 2016 Report Share Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Hi everyone Just got round to fitting h frame earlier today.having few problems as the frame does not want to go in.it just seems like it's to long.I have a steel tunnel fitted and had to do a bit of reshaping on that just to get it to go over.somethings not right just wondered what's best way to go with this.would it be better to fit plastic tunnel instead? RogerH Posted November 13, 2016 Report Share Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Hi Nige, does the 'H; frame straddle the tunnel and have its feet on the floor.. If yes - then the dash needs jacking up slighty - jack it uip and fit the 'H; frame then remove jack. If the feet do not touch the floor then the tunnel may well be at fault. Can it be fettled. david c Posted November 13, 2016 Report Share Posted November 13, 2016 They can be an absolute moose to get in, Roger is right, you will have to jack up the dash board (use a lump of 2x2 to spread the load. at the top of the jack and a bit of heavy duty ply underneath. boxofbits Posted November 13, 2016 Report Share Posted November 13, 2016 Mine was also tight and seemed to tall. A lot if it is down to perseverance. I managed to put two long fairly thick Philips screwdrivers through the hole in the H frame and the hole in the dash and ease the frame down. If you can get a long bolt in to start, you can push it down and in as you tighten. Be exTRa careful with the threads in the floor not to get them crossed. TR4ffic Posted November 15, 2016 Report Share Posted November 15, 2016 Does the H frame fit between floor and dash without the tunnel in place? If it does, then it's the tunnel. Does the tunnel sit far enough forward? Check the alignment of the tunnel flange to the floor pan, drivers' side where they come in behind the starter motor. If there's some fore-and-atf gap, consider removing some material from the front face of the tunnel where it butts up to the bulkhead so that the tunnel sits further forward. You might not need to remove material from the whole length of the front face - get your head down into the footwell to see if it's just in one or two areas. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Nige Original tunnel would have been from pressed cardboard, replacements (as the originals tended to disintegrate fairly rapidly) are fibreglass or plastic. Stuart.
