TR7 rear brakes and hubs getting hot

Recommended Posts

The rear brakes on my TR7 are getting hot without any excessive braking, how hot well between 50 and 100 deg.C measured with an Infra red thermometer. They are also binding on as car cannot be pushed when parked on level ground but if left to cool car will move. Two garages have had a look at and cannot find any problem. However have had two or three independent opinions that the cause could be the master cylinder or air in the system. Any suggestions about what to look at first?

I had a similar problem with my TR2. After a few miles the brakes started to bind badly.

I would either have to bleed off excess pressure via a wheel cylinder bleed nipple or wait a long time until the car would roll again.

I could prevent this happening providing I didn't use the brakes!

I finally found the problem to be a small bleed hole in the master cylinder was blocked and not allowing the expanding fluid to move back into the reservoir.

Good luck.

Or the rear brake flexible, if old enough : it can play as an "anti-return valve" effect, when the rubber perished in the hose.

Don't ask.....
