Paul J
Good day all, could someone advise me on the gear knob thread size and form. My intended project today was machining a new knob but with the car away having a spray tan I'm without some vital info. Thanks Paul

BlueTR3A-5EKT
Good day all, could someone advise me on the gear knob thread size and form. My intended project today was machining a new knob but with the car away having a spray tan I'm without some vital info. Thanks Paul It is the same thread as classic Mini. range <<< http://www.minispares.com/search/classic/gear%20knob.aspx >>> If you make it from plain aluminium you may find it dirties your palm when used. Clear laquer or anodizing would be a solution. I have a new red bakelite one for a TR4-6 in the garage if you are interested - £5.00 including postage. It looks like a snooker ball and is about 42 mm diam. It has a proper threaded insert. Cheers Peter W Edited October 16, 2016 by BlueTR3A-5EKT

Paul J
Here it is, mk1 brass gear knob with OD switch. I have drilled 4 X 3mm holes through it to accommodate the electrics, now need my car back to see what mods will be needed.
stuart
Looks nice Paul, I may well be interested in one of those too, One thing to be wary of is how you run the wires up to it as I have had problems with mine running up there chafing down in the gaiter. Stuart.
Paul J
Hi Stuart I will see what problems arise, was going to make it out of aluminium but as Peter stated it can give you black hand, had enough of that keeping two wheels going. Not a problem if you want one after proving. Paul

Lebro
I have a Truimph 2000 gear knob with O/D switch in it which I was thinking of fitting to my '3. I even ran the wires up the gear stick, & along the tunnel prior to fitting the gearbox cover. But I find that I actually like the O/D switch in it's normal position, just right of the steering wheel. Bob.

I used to run a Series 1 XJ6 Manual for many years as a road car so got really used to the switch on the gear knob and have never liked to column stalks. Previous to that I had a MK2 with the column stalk and I never really liked that position despite the fact they had an illuminated legend on the cowl saying "Overdrive" Stuart.
