Iridium plugs

Recommended Posts

I have tried Iridium plugs in my TR6 and found that I preferred the standard NGK BPR6ES plugs instead. They were taken out after only 2 months, not impressed for the money anyway.

I shall be using them to improve ignition of lean mixtures, and to keep the sparks flying under boost with water droplets flying around too. Decision based upon upon Heywood's textbook data.

I have used them for 2 years there was a definate improvement but I was advised by a friend in the US that to get the best out of them. They have to be used with a high energy ignition system, I am using a Pertronix Ingitor 2 system with their very low resistance 45kv coil. (Not certain that this system is available in the UK) The main thing that I noticed was more instant start up and the plugs stay cleaner. I have yet to clean the plugs. But some of this could also be down to the ignition system as well.
