The TR250 restoration saga - off to be blasted

Recommended Posts

A few pics taken this morning:

The Jasmine TR250 is ready to be attacked by the media blaster. Over that last few weeks, spent hours and hours were spent removing all the grime, dirt, old bitumen, noise reduction plates etc etc. What's left is acceptable for the media blaster. He will blast the paint off the car, removing rust etc. Then the car will be primed and from there on, the guys at the shop will start welding.

Prepping a car to be blasted proved to be a pain in the @ss job.. And expensive when the owner has to pay the full labour costs. That's the reason it was done in spare hours and the owner came in and did this with his son on Saturdays and a Sunday.

Its one thing that people often forget when sending stuff for blasting is it will just bounce off underseal and sealant and also believe it or not areas of glue from carpets. Yes it can be blasted off if you use high direct on pressure but by that time the panel will be buckled beyond use. A light touch is required just enough and at an angle. If your blaster doesnt understand that then dont take it there. Dont let them anywhere near outer panels unless its vapour blasting either.

That's why the glue, under sealant etc has been removed.

I have no translation for the way the outer panels are blasted, but the blaster knows a thing or two about the problems on outer panels I think he uses what you call 'vapour blasting'.

I didn't mention it, but the tub is nearly off the chassis. It's only a matter of taking the bolts out and lifting the tub. Steering is still 'in situ' because it makes maneuvering easier.

Hi Menno , alot of hard work done, so the worst bit is over,

I too had panels blasted ,the man was told to go carefully , but he buckled my bonnet, without as much as a sorry about that ! He was supposed to do it at an angle with the air turned down.

Anyway good luck with it all,and most of all have fun.

Conrad.
