Swapping CD175's to HS6's

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had always intended to change my current Strombergs for SU's and have finally got around to sourcing a decent set of HS6's with manifold & linkage.

Looks like I'll need a slightly different length of horizontal link rod - apart from that are there any weird gotcha's to be aware of ?

Thanks in advance,

...... Andy

Hi Andy.

There should be no trouble at all.

I did this conversion and I am really happy with it.

Here is a link to loads of pictures of the conversion and linkage plus a video.

Also on that page you will see the super rare S.U. DU-6 carburettors.

That is a conversion I would love to see:-)

Good luck.

Paul.

H Paul,

Thanks for the pointers.... Your photos have confirmed that I have everything except a shorter link rod to the pedal pivot.

The DU6's would be fun, but beyond my pockets!

I'll be reusing my existing K&N's but your SU pancakes look lovely and I may keep my eyes open for some of those in the future :)

Cheers..... Andy

That's some Inlet Manifold.

Yep, knocked together using alloy thickwall tube and alloy plate drilled and bored either end to match the carbs and cylinder head, purely to use the carbs during the 1987 season Relay race where there was no restriction upon car spec.

We made it 11" long to try and bring the revs down of the torque which we'd worked out was to far up the range for the engine, good idea bad result. Made the power delivery difficult as it came in like gangbusters at 4000 revs normally about mid corner, the shorter manifold lengths would work better.

Great stuff.

Thanks Paul.... to be honest, i was just about to trim the cable back before thinking of the p-clip - there weren't many threads left on the air filter fastener though!

My new copper fuel pipe needs to look a bit less new so it blends in as well :)

cheers..... Andy
