tim hunt
This year is the golden anniversary of this biennial 2000-mile, 48-hour event and this time the number of entries is a record high - currently 145 cars! These include a TR3, a 3A, a GTR4 Dove, four 4As, three 5s, nine 6s, nine 7s and a TR8. To accommodate the huge entry this time the start and finish venue has been changed to Knebworth Park SG1 2AX. Cars will depart from 18.00 on Friday 7th October, fifty years to the day after the Club's first Round Britain. Anyone interested is most welcome to come and see the cars off, there is ample free parking only a short walk from where entrants' cars will be gathered. This will be my 21st RBRR in the 4A and my14th with the same co-driver - a record. Ever since the 1990 event drivers have sought sponsorship for many worthy charities and to date have raised a total of well over half a million pounds. For this year's event our nominated charity is Guide Dogs and if anyone would like to sponsor Team 42 pleased visit my web page www.justgiving.com/tim-hunt2 My sincere thanks again to those who have already kindly donated. RogerH
Hi Tim, having only done two (2010 & 2014) I wish I was joining you for this year. Sponsor form done. Drive safely. Roger
mike3md
Hi Tim, Not doing it myself this year, but Mike N & Alistair are hauling out Moby (the Great White Whale) for another run. Good luck to all participants. Mike
john.r.davies
The RBRR is one of the - delete! - the best untimed endurance events around, and the best organised. Been there twice, sad to say never in my old estate Vitesse, which with sleeping adaptations could have been ideal. Good luck to all, esp.for a record sum for the Guide Dogs. Ben Freer
Well we're doing it too; in a 3 for the first time. When I tell people they tend to go quiet when I mention what car we're doing it in! Never mind we have ordered new seats from Racetorations and will be wearing earmuffs. Anyone that thinks we are completely barking (pun intended considering the charity) is cordially invited to donate via the link below! Preparation is the key. You definitely need extra lighting, (I had two large driving lights mounted fairly high on a badge bar), power sockets for sat nav and phone, Revington seats, four point harness TRS belts, converted to negative earth and alternator fitted. I also fitted a bank of relays internally (under the heater) and fused the all the lights separately. I wrote up and photographed what I did and it was published in TR Action, if you need it, pm me and I will send a copy of the article. I also still have the badge bar and lamps if you are interested (and a set of Britax harness belts) Fantastic event, but tiring.............................. Have to admit, I did it 4 years later in a TR7V8 and it was significantly more leisurely! Good luck Ian
Ben Freer
PM sent Ian. We have most of those modifications thankfully.
Ben's wife
I was trying to persuade Ben that we should fit aero screens for this event. If you are going to do something a bit bonkers, why not be totally bonkers? (look, even this emoticon is wearing flying helmet and goggles!!)
